The Ikonta 35 and the Contina were produced in the Zeiss Ikon plant in Stuttgart from 1948 to 1954. A great many of them were sold in Armed Forces PXs and came home with returning GIs. Zeiss (Berlin/Stuttgart) made at least 26 cameras with the Ikonta name. There are at least 12 different Ikonta 521s. Of these latter, 4 are 4,5x6 cameras and seem to be just plain 521s. The ones that are 6x9 seem mostly to be 521/2, the 6x6 are 521/16.

While he didn't opt for the Super Ikonta, he paid for a few optional extras; a leather case, the 75mm 3.5 Tessar lens and Compur shutter which had a blindingly fast 1/500th maximum speed!

In 1933, Zeiss introduced an updated version, the Super-Ikonta, which added a coupled rangefinder. Like the Ikontas, these were designated A 530, B 530/16, and C 530/2. The Super-Ikonta C 530/2 shot eight frames on a roll of 120 in the 6×9 image size, with the option to add a mask to take it down to half-frame or 6×4.5.

Our review camera for today is the Zeiss Ikon Ikonta with Novar 75mm F/4.5 lens and Prontor SV shutter. It's marked 523/16 on the backside, I think it's a 'B' model. It takes 12 2¼ x 2¼ (6×6) photos on a roll of 120 film. This very Zeiss Ikon Ikonta was purchased by my dad in the summer of 1953 while getting ready to head home from the Korean war.
